How to Use Postcard Mail-Outs to Increase Your Businessby K KingAs I've stated earlier, the internet seems to be the most logical place to advertise for any business because you have the potential of reaching out to the entire world for customers. So the thought might be that the internet has totally changed the face of how all items are ordered and delivered to customers. Postcard mailing must be a thing of the past -- ancient history... a dinosaur, right? You'll be surprised to know that you'd be wrong to think that! In reality ordering products and services through the mail is still alive and thriving! We all know that people are used to ordering products from companies and then receiving them by delivery to their home or office...whether that be through Fed Ex, UPS, or the US Postal system. More than likely you've done this yourself. So what's the difference between buying something from a website compared to doing this via a catalog or some other printed advertisement? The answer: None! No difference what-so-ever. The point is that no matter how you advertise, the main objective is to get a customer. And a paying customer, at that!
That's where I come to recommending advertising your business, your goods and service, your products through direct response marketing via postcard mail outs. Why? Because believe it or not, EVERYBODY does not have a computer! What everyone does have is a mailbox! See the greater potential here? Your 70 year old neighbor couldn't open an email if her life depended on it... but she can read a postcard that is advertising your business with ease. She will need goods and services as long as she is breathing air. What if your business is a carpet cleaning service, or a drug store that delivers to the home, or an air conditioning service? Are there potential customers that are missing out on knowing what services you offer? Advertising your product leads to sales which is the ultimate goal in business, is it not? So how do we use a printed postcard to increase profits? You can employ the same methods of advertising as you would a product on the internet. Look at your postcard as a squeeze page. {I'm also an internet marketer, so excuse me if I talk over your heads with weird phrases without meaning to.} A squeeze page is also known as a landing page. This is a page that you would see on the internet that just 'peaks your interest' in what will be ultimately the sale. The squeeze page usually asks you to take some action to get you closer to the sales page. For example, I'm sure you have gotten email ads from some advertiser before. That email opens to what can be considered to be a squeeze page. If you're interested in the ad you will usually click on that page somewhere which opens up to the actual sales page and now gives you the real option to buy. Postcards can be used in the same manner. Your postcard shouldn't try to be the sales page. Your goal is to get enough interest in your business that the potential customer picks up the phone and dials a few numbers. Once they call the number they will hear a recorded message that explains the product or service and then gives them an opportunity to order directly or set an appointment. Or you may have them order a free catalog that will help you garner sales in the future from new and existing customers. This now puts them on your mailing list and you can advertise to them continually... at least until you wear out your welcome. That's why your mailing lists should be treated with respect and not abused. You don't want your postcards to be considered 'junk mail'. So for a successful start to a postcard marketing campaign you will need to follow this outline: · Pick a simple, yet effective, postcard that highlights the product or service. · Add enough information to 'peak an interest' but not make a sales pitch. · You mail the postcard out to the demographic area that needs your services. · They respond by calling a telephone number. · They listen to a recorded message that explains and sells the product. · They push '1' at the end of the recording which takes them to a live operator. · You then ship them the product or deliver the service that they ordered. That's it in a nut shell! There are variables to the system that are needed - such as, how to find the mailing list with the proper demographics for your business and who handles the call center to take the orders, and who drop-ships the products out to the customers - but those are simple to overcome. In fact that will be a subject addressed in greater detail in a future post. So stay tuned! I hope this particular post has given you food for thought as to how you can use what was considered 'dead' (snail mail) as an alternate vehicle for expanding your business. Printing, in general, is still very much a fundamental part of any business. It's just not the first thing that owners think about as a means to advertising for their business as it was in times past. E-mail and e-cards, television and radio have replaced, in some cases, the traditional business card. But the bottom line is...business cards, brochures, and postcards are still pivotal to advertising! Technology has helped the printing industry by making it simple to order all of your printing needs online and have them delivered straight to your door.
