Thu, 17 Jul 2008 07:11:04 GMT The rain continues to fall on my garden to the tune of three inches so far in July. What a difference that makes to a gardener's heart and spirit. The lack of worrying and hose dragging has allowed me to concentrate on maintenance chores such as weeding and deadheading. It also has allowed me to spend more time just wandering about the garden and looking for the everyday miracles that occur there.

  2. Beat the summer heat with fresh fruits and veggies (Philadelphia Daily News)Open this result in new window
Thu, 17 Jul 2008 08:09:07 GMT IF YOU CAN'T stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Sure, it might be too steamy to cook, but you still have to eat, right? Take a page out of the cookbooks of six area chefs and keep it light, simple and flavorful the next time you make a summer supper, best enjoyed outside in the garden, on the deck or patio.

Thu, 17 Jul 2008 17:20:29 GMT About the House: Do You Speak Toaster? I was chatting with my friend Charlie this morning about things variously fixable and unfixable. Charlie is that rarely spotted bird, the philosopher/handyman (et mariner/gadabout/movie and social critic).

  4. It’s not just a Farmer’s Market — it’s a big, happy family (The Petersburg Progress-Index)Open this result in new window
Thu, 17 Jul 2008 16:13:51 GMT One of my favorite early Saturday morning pastimes is to crawl out of bed, put on a baseball gap and walk to the Farmer’s Market. Unfortunately, right now, I actually walk past the Farmer’s Market building to get to the vendors.

  5. Mindful couple turns castoffs into garden art (Portland Tribune)Open this result in new window
Fri, 18 Jul 2008 07:05:06 GMT I never dreamed I’d have a metal file cabinet in my garden, but that’s what it’s come to around here. I guess it’s really a perfect fit for me, a writer with four file cabinets bursting at the seams in my home office. Actually, the metal file cabinet was transformed by ...

  6. Poisoning pests may not be best for your garden (Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune)Open this result in new window
Tue, 15 Jul 2008 17:03:15 GMT Take a few steps into your garden and look closely. You'll see ecology at work, though not necessarily in a way that may please you: insects, bacteria and fungi eating your plants.

Thu, 17 Jul 2008 18:30:44 GMT One of the more reliable ways to make money on the Internet, especially if you are a stay-at-home mother, is to have a life and blog it.
